Question
My son is 6 years old, and for the past 2 summers we have been unable to clear up what seems to be a seasonal problem(summer). His fingers and toes dry out, peel and crack to the point of bleeding. They almost look like they have been scolded and then it gets progressively worse. It is very painful for him. We kept him out of the swimming pool, monitored and charted what he eats and drinks, to see if we could determine to source of the problem, but no luck. We have used prescription lotions and ointments but no luck, I have even tried tea tree ointment and emu oil and still nothing helps. I'm at the end of my ropes,he wears band-aids with ointment on the bad fingers and toes but still this does not seem to even come close to solving the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I feel so bad for him.
Answer
You need to rule out conditions such as ALLERGIC DERMATITIS and CONTACT DERMATITIS. A condition such as POMPHOLYX should also be kept in mind. Consult a dermatologist for the same. You can wash the lesions with potassium permanganate dressing and treat super added bacterial infection with antibiotic creams. Avoid exposure to nickel and other alloys.
